Experts in literacy and child development have discovered that ‘If children know eight nursery rhymes by heart by the time they’re four years old, they’re usually among the best readers by the time they’re eight.’ Understanding rhymes makes a child sensitive and reciting them makes them creative. Therefore, a Rhyme Recitation Competition was held in Presidium Pitampura for the Pre-Primary classes. The purpose of the competition was to instill a love for poetry and to develop recitation skills among the students. The children chose a variety of topics for their recitation like friends, nature, trees, flowers, teacher, school etc. The children made all the characters of each rhyme come alive. They enthralled their teachers and friends with their articulation and memory skills while reciting rhymes. It was an excellent opportunity for them to gain confidence through stage exposure.
